If stock car racing had a hat track, Marty Ward would qualify at Greenville-Pickens Speedway

Ward took the checkered flag for his third straight victory, but this time he had to work for the win.

Ward didn't go into the lead until three-fourths of the race was complete, passing Michael Cherry on the backstretch. Cherry developed problems a few laps later and faded into the pack. Cherry then parked his car as the laps ran down.

"We had a couple of weeks to work on the car, but after two wins in one night, we were afraid to do too much to it," Ward said in Victory Lane. "Now we've got another week off, so we will have a meeting the first of the week and try to figure out what to do to make the car quicker and handle better."

Roger Powell finished second, and John Lewis Hightower took third. Randy Hawkins was fourth.

The win leaves Ward with a perfect mark, since he won the Twin 50 races in the season opener. The Late-Model Stock cars will be idle next week as the traveling Camping World East series visits for the NASCAR Home Track 150. This will be the first race for the Camping World East cars.

The results of the Late-Model Stock main event are unofficial pending post-race inspection of the top two cars.

In the Sportsman division, Randy Ballew took the checkered flag but not without a lot of pressure. In the opener, two weeks ago, C.M. Knight took the victory and had to start at the rear, but with five laps remaining in the race, Knight had worked his way up to the bumper of Ballew. They finished exactly that way. Tim Lollis was third, and Tony Bridgeman was fourth. Robert Root was fifth.

Zach Pressley, who had plenty of problems in the season opener, found things going exactly right and took the first Charger checkered flag. James Johnson was second, followed by Mike Mote, Phillip Peters and Brian Davis.

Andy Norris worked his way to victory lane in the second Charger main event, with Jamie Tate second and Tyler Stephens third.

In the first Renegade race, J.D. Griffith took the victory by just the thickness of his bumper in a photo finish, as Scott Smith narrowly missed the win. Percy Proctor took third.

The apparent winner of the second Renegade race was disqualified because of an illegal sway bar, giving Matt Hale the win. Zach Dillon was second, with Jeremy Drummond third.
