What was supposed to be a single green, white, checkered finish at Greenville-Pickens Speedway Friday night turned into a multiple restart situation as the PASS series cars tried to find a winner. After lap after lap of fighting for the front, Jeff Fultz, Corey Williams, Trey Mitchell, and Brian Ickler were all set to settle the issue once and for all. Then Williams and Mitchell were involved in a spinout with two laps to go, leaving Fultz out front all along and all he had to do was hold on for the restart. Only Fultz' car was smoking badly, and on the restart he was not even able to get up to speed. As Jay Fogleman ducked to the inside to take the point, Fultz spun to the outside, taking out several other cars. When the dust seemed to settle, Jeff Choquette was on the point, with Fogleman in second. But before the green flag fell, Choquette ran out of fuel, and Fogleman inherited the top spot, still with the green, white and checkered laps to be run. Still other cautions flew before the race was settled, then, once and for all, Fogleman managed to lead the last laps for victory. It was Fogleman ahead of Brian Ickler, with Alex Fleming, Ben Rowe, and Ryan Blaney taking fifth. The son of Dave Blaney, Ryan is just 14 years old. Greenville's two entries, Randy Gentry and Randy Porter, showed flashes, but both retired before the end of the race, Gentry became the innocent bystander who took the shot, when, two-thirds of the way through the race, he came out of the second turn to find the track completely blocked. Gentry, who had started ninth and had raced right near that position the whole race, was damaged too much to continue through no fault of his own. Porter, who started way back in the field, had worked his way up to tenth before mechanical woes sent him to the pits. Scott Mann became the first repeat All-Star champion, taking the Charger event by leading from start to finish, after surviving a close shave as he and Phillip Peters got together while fighting for the lead. Andy Norris came in second, with Chuckie Greer third. Peters came back to finish fourth, ahead of Mike Mote, Walt ANders, and Ricky Stephens. In the Renegade All-Star Main Event, Scott Smith, who survived a spin early in the race, came back to take the checkered flag, then apologized to another car for the two being involved. "I didn't mean to do that, we just seemed to get together," Smith said. "I am thrilled to win this race, and need to thank all of the people who helped me. Travis Cox was the second-place finisher, with Jay Crowe taking third. Terry Hawthorne, who led the early laps, was fourth and Michael Altop was fifth. Dickie Davenport took sixth with Dale Walker in seventh, and All-Star defending champion Dale Stancil finished eighth after suffering a flat tire early in the event. CHARGER MAIN
