David Roberts took a page from Marty Ward's race program Saturday night, winning both ends of the Twin 50's Main Events. But Ward, who has had tremendous success at the track this season, had some satisfaction even though he finished third in both races. Ward passed Roger Powell in the points race, and now has the edge in his quest to be only the second six-time track champion in the history of the track.

In the first 50-lap main, Roberts took 15 laps to jump out front and hold on as a real battle emerged behind him for the next three spots.

It was Roberts' first victory of the season, and he especially wanted to thank Ashley Burton, who just over a week ago agreed to help sponsor Roberts' racing efforts. "If it weren't for him, I couldn't be here," Roberts said. "I was running as good as I have ever run for the first half of the race, and from everything I could see they were really working hard behind me."

Then Roberts became overcome with emotion, considering all the adversity he and his family have faced since last season. "This car was named after my Mother, who passed away last October. My mother-in-law is battling cancer right now. A lot has happened to us. We've had engine problems and handling problems, and brake problems. But, this was the first win for this car, equipped with an Ortec chassis and I'm very happy for my new sponsor, Pacific Equipment."

Randy Porter pulled off a successful battle with Roger Powell and Marty Ward for second. Ward took third, on the last lap, and the win put he and Powell into a tie for the points lead going into the nightcap race.

Corey Gibson was the fifth-place finisher in the opening race.     In the nightcap, it appeared Ward was completely back in form, but after leading much of the race, Roberts got by on a restart. Then Anthony Anders passed Ward for second, but Powell was finishing seventh.     "The car was terrific tonight," Roberts said after the second race. "We had gotten a little loose in the first race, but my crew worked hard on the car and it was just awesome in the second race. This was a special night for me, a night I will remember for a long time.'

In the Sportsman main, Randy Ballew had his hands full with Tim Lollis but held on to take the checkered flag. With Lollis taking the close second, Steve Hollingsworth was third, Tony Bridgeman took fourth and Stanley Pressley was fifth.

Ricky Stephens waited until the halfway point of the Charger main event to put the car belonging to Tim Crowe out front and he had little trouble holding on for the victory. Jamie Tate was second, with Ryan Dombrosky third. Michael Mote and James Johnson rounded out the top five.

Dale Walker took the victory in the first Renegade race, holding off Matt Hale, Zach Meinders, Travis Cox, and Jeremy Drummond.     In the second Renegade main, T.J. Lollis took the win, with Shawn Campbell taking second. Terry Hawthorne was third, followed by Dickie Davenport and Christi Kelly.
