Marty Ward said his goal coming into this season was to  win one race, and Saturday night at Greenville-Pickens Speedway he saw the  checkered flag wave his way for the 13th time. Even though Toby Porter led the  first four laps, Ward was right beside him, and took command for the rest of the  race. Porter could stay close, very close, but could not get back by the veteran  Ward.

Ward now  veteran Ward.

Ward now sits 80 points head with just two races  remaining to clinch his sixth championship, a feat only accomplished one time in  the track's
history. Donnie Bishop is the only driver ever to accomplish this,  and Ward is sitting right there.

The next race for the local Late-Model Stock  drivers is a national event, staged here on Labor Day, with points counting bot  national and local. There is a $10,000 winner's check for the winner of this  125-lap race, and Ward said it's been quite a while since he was in an event of  this length, but he is all set to compete. "We've got the car to compete, and  we'll just wait and see what happens," Ward said.

With Ward winning and Porter in second, Jeremy  Burns took third and Anthony Anders, who won the Shrine Race only a week ago,  was fourth. Ralph Carnes took fifth, and Kenneth Headen took sixth. Tasha  Kummer finished seventh. Greg Welborn, John Hawkins, and Bob Root rounded  out the top ten.

In the Sportsman main, while the rest of the  field was fighting for position, Tim Lollis jumped to the lead and stayed far  enough away to stay
out of trouble for the victory. Jamie Altop passed Chris  Chastain late for second place, and Jamie Tate was fourth. Marty Ward, driving a  truck for the first time this season, took fifth.

James Johnson found the safest place to be in  the Charger division was in front, so he worked his way up from second to pass  Ricky Stephens and stay in front for the checkered flag. Stephens was second,  and Daryl Culbertson, who was involved in a first-lap crash that eliminated Tim  Crowe, came back to finish third. Chuckie Greer took fourth and now trails Crowe  by 14 points. Andy Norris was fifth.

Steve Guthrie didn't have any problem staying in  front in the opening Renegade race and taking the checkered flag, but he  couldn't relax a moment because TJ  Lollis was right on his rear bumper.  Jeremy Drummond took third, with Jamie Burton fourth and Edward Ragsdale was  fifth.

The second Renegade was a constant battle for the  front spot among four cars, who were in a scramble between the third and fourth  turn on the last lap. Zach Meniders, who had the lead, held on as the cars just  behind were involved in the wreck. With scoring going back to the last lap,  except for the cars stopped in the collision, Bobby Butler was second, and  points leader Terry Hawthorne was third. Shave Hill was fourth, and Jim  Fitzgerald took fifth.

Camden Francis led from start to finish in the Pure  Stock division, with Dylan Crowe in second and Chase Thomason third. Pierre  Perkins was fourth.
