WARD COASTS IN LATE MODELS, BRETT MOFFITT GOES FLAG TO FLAG AND FENDS OFF LATE CHARGE BY COLEMAN PRESSLEY TO CLAIM K&N PRO SERIES EAST OPENER

Even though the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East cars visited Greenville-Picknes Speedway Saturday night, Marty Ward put on a show winning the Late-Model Stock race that was hard to beat.

Ward started on the front row, outside pole sitter Randy Porter, but wasted little time getting to the front and staying there for the 40-laps. In the Winner's Circle, Ward said sponsor Bryan Ramey had stepped up, helping with the bills, but pointe dout he still has a spot on his hood for an additional sponsor.

"My car was good, but not that good," Ward said. "At least it seemed to be a bit better than anyone else. I need to thank the guys on my pit crew, that volunteer their time so we can have the car ready every week, and I managed to cut my points defecit in half/

Ward came into the race a whopping four points behind Anthony Anders, who won the opening Twion 50's races, but Ward had finished second in each of these main events. Now Ward trails Anders by two points, one position.

Anders finished second in this race, with Randy Porter in third. Trey Gibson, getting a night off from his Revolution Racing duties in Drive for Diversity, finished fourth, and Toby Porter, who was involved in a spin to bring out the first caution, came back to finish fifth.

Kenneth Headen was sixth, followed by the Burns brothers, Jeremy and Will, in seventh and eighth, while Tasha Porter Kummer was ninth. Bob Root took tenth.

In the featured race of the evening the Kevin Whitaler 150 for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, Brett Moffitt came all the way from Grimes Iowa to be the dominator. Moffitt cracked the track record in qualifying to sit on the pole, and led every lap for the victory.

Coleman Pressley, who competed here regularly a few years ago, worked his way all the way to second, and had a chance to take the lead late in the race, but a caution flag put him back in second for good. Alex Bowman finished third, and Chase Elliott was fourth.

Elliott, son of former NASCAR champion Bill Elliott, started back in the pack, but worked his way steadily forward for the fourth spot. Darrell Wallace, Jr., the defending winner of this race, finished fifth. Sergio Pena was sixth, Brandon McReynolds  was seventh, as Brandon Haley, Cody Hodgson, and Andrew Smith rounded out the top ten.

Kenneth Headen made winning look easy in the truck division, as he led from start to finish. The race was marred by an accident on the first lap as Greg Tinsley slammed the wall and came back down the track to hit Jamie Altop.

Jamie Tate finished second to Headen, with Tim Lollis third, John Martin fourth, and Michael Altop was fifth.

Travis Long took the win in the Renegade division, with Tad Price taking second. Ryan Walker was third, with Kyle Ballew fourth and Andrew Cordell fifth.

Andy Norris sailed away in the Charger division, with the action hot and heavy behind him. When the smoke cleared, Mike Mote and Michael Mote were second and third, with James Johnson and Ricky Stephens rounding out the top five.
