Ben Rhodes Sweeps the Weekend
Ben Rhodes could do no wrongnight at Greenville-Pickens Speedway before rain forced postponement of the rest of the program. Since the historic half mile speedway had twin 40-lap main events scheduled, the track's premier division started the night's program. Rhodes, only 16-year-old and coming from Louisville, Kentucky, Rhodes was the top qualifier, started on the pole, and led every lap to become the youngest driver ever to win a Late-Model Stock race at the historic half mile.
Anthony Anders, who has a lock on the 2013 Track Championship, worked his way up to second, although Randy Porter was knocking on his door, trying to pass, lap after lap. Anders and Porter, racing side by side, kept the attention of the crowd and Anders prevailed. Porter was third, and Randy Hawkins who was also competing here for the first time this year, was the fourth-place finisher. Ryan Walker was fifth, and Dylan Hall took sixth. Mitchell Mote was seventh as Greg Welborn, Brandon Fox, and Trey Gibson completed the top ten. Joey McKinney and Justin Sorrrow ere eleventh and twelfth, respectively. Ryan Walker lost control of his car as the Late-Model race started, and Trey Gibson was unable to avoid the spinning car. Walker was able to continue but Gibson was sidelined.
Buck Simmons grabbed the win in the Street Stock division, as Dale J. Walker was second. Drew Moser was third, and Freddy Hale, Jr., was fourth. Travis Shelton, Scott C. Walker, and Brian Benton completed the field.
Andrew Cordell had little trouble winning the Renegade race, as Bobby Emory took second and Brad Burns was third. Larry Nabors was fourth and Parker Jameson was fifth. It was points leader Cordell's seven victory of the season.
Bryan King won the four cylinder main event as Donovan Beacham was second; Don Tavernia was third, as Tommy Davis, Jr. and Charlie Hooper completed the top five.
Ricky Stephens made a dramatic last lap pass of Josh Sams in the Charger division. It was Stephens' eighth straight win this season. Michael Mote was third as Bryan Davis and Andy Norris completed the top five. Chris Harvell; Tim Crowe and Stanley Pressley rounded out the field.
Tim Lollis won the Truck main event, as Brad Jeter and Jamie Altop were second and third, respectively. Bob Root was fourth and Mike Mote was fifth. Jon Martin finished sixth.
